Slightly off-the-wall question, but: when you draw a random animal, such as a chicken or something else cartoony/non-sexually-dimorphic, do you tend to think of them as one gender or another?
Chickens are female, unless they're roosters. :D
I dunno. The cartoon blobs like the one in the Valentine picture or really weird stuff like the tooth fairies or acorn fairy tend to be neuter, but with actual animals, unless I know how to sex the species (like, red lower beak on common kingfishers means female) the strongest influence seems to be the grammatical gender of the species in German.
